To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
and the 60th Anniversary of the Council of Europe, the Council of Europe has
developed some new materials which can help children to discover their rights in
an understandable and funny way. The materials can be used in awareness
raising activities in the school and any other places visited by children and/or
parents (health centres, social services, sports and cultural centres, etc).

Today, Mr Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner responsible for justice, freedom and security, has launched the 4th edition of its poster competition for young people to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Photographers from Hungary, France and United Kingdom have won the EU photo competition organised in the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation with the theme "Imagine a new world". The winning photographers will receive their prizes today in Brussels and their works put on display.

One hundred secondary school students from 25 countries are in Brussels today to compete in a marathon 24-hour challenge for which they must find creative solutions. The unique event is organised in the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009.

Young people from 16 to 30 years old, from all the EU Member States, are invited to participate in a competition on EU development, integration and European identity issues. The "European Charlemagne Youth Prize" is awarded to projects which promote the European and international understanding, foster the development of a shared sense of European identity and integration, serve as a role model for young people living in Europe and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community. Participants can apply individually or in groups.
