Comenius
Comenius is one of the most popular international education programmes for UK schools, colleges and local authorities. It is part of the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme. Comenius provides opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum. Working with schools across Europe can bring learning alive for pupils and staff alike. Funding is available to support partnerships, in-service training and teaching assistantships. If you work in a school, college, a local authority or a teacher training institution you are likely to be eligible to take up opportunities offered through Comenius. To find out what's on offer go to the Comenius website.
eTwinning
eTwinning enables teachers, pupils and students in 32 European countries to work together using Information and Communication Technology (ICT). eTwinning is the European Commission’s partner finding and online collaboration tool. As a school or college (working with pupils and students between the ages of 3 and 20) you can register your details, create a profile, search for partners and engage in online partnerships - absolutely free of charge. Teachers and their students can form short or long term partnerships, collaborate on a whole range of curriculum-based projects in any subject area and use an array of exciting and innovative ICT tools. There is no administration process or time restriction – you choose how and when you want to work. To find out more visit the eTwinning website.
Transversal Study Visits
Transversal is another strand of the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme. It gives UK learning professionals the chance to exchange expertise with their European colleagues. Transversal programme funding supports education and training organisations in the areas of policy, languages, ICT and dissemination. If you’re a learning professional involved in the design or delivery of education or vocational training, you could benefit from a Transversal Study Visit in another European country. People from all areas of education and training can take part. This includes those working in Government, local authorities, schools, colleges, adult education organisations, trade unions, companies, sectoral organisations, the voluntary sector and non-governmental organisations. To find out more about the programme visit the Transversal website.
