Eurodesk UK attended "Learning by Leaving 2018", a joint conference for European mobility networks organised by Eurodesk, Euroguidance, Europass and EURES centres. The event took place in Cologne, Germany from 19 to 21 November launching a series of Learning by Leaving Conferences that will be organised in the next three years.

From 24th to 26th October 260 young people, experts and policy makers from all over Europe gathered in Tallinn, Estonia, to discuss youth policy and explore what young people expect from the EU to allow them to live prosperous, sustainable and successful lives. The aim of the conference was to provide insight and input to consultations on the new EU Youth Strategy. Delegates acknowledged that the new European Union Youth Strategy 2018+ must not only be about young people, but also developed with young people.

The European Youth Forum, together with InternsGoPro and other youth-led organisations across the world, are organising the International Interns Day, with events taking place in Switzerland, Belgium, France, Spain, Hungary and other countries. The aim is to improve the accessibility and the labour conditions of internships and thus fighting exploitation. The programme is open source such that everyone can get ownership of it and bring their own actions to the day taking place simultaneously across the world both online & offline. The Brussels event will take place on the 9th.

The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will deliver his State of the Union address at the European Parliament. He will take stock of achievements of the past year and present the priorities for the year ahead. The President also sets out how the Commission will address the most pressing challenges the European Union is facing. The speech will be followed by a plenary debate. This kick-starts the dialogue with the Parliament and the Council to prepare the Commission Work Programme for the following year.

  • Inform: delegates will receive the latest information about the programme in the UK
  • Involve: make connections with a motivated community from across the sectors of higher education, vocational education and training, schools, adult education, and youth 
  • Inspire: share the outcomes and impact of the current programme and its predecessors, celebrating 30 years from Erasmus to Erasmus+

The Youth and Sport Intergroups of the European Parliament jointly host a meeting on the role of youth and sports organisations for social inclusion of young people in Brussels on 27 September 10:00-14:30. Policy-makers, activists and representatives of youth and sport organisations will discuss in two panels how youth and sports organisations connecting to formal and non-formal education can contribute to the social inclusion of young people.
