UK Young Artists

UK Young Artists champions the next generation of creativity, supporting collaboration and intercultural dialogue, ensuring a vibrant and diverse creative future for the UK. We work in partnership with 4 East Midlands universities to enable a talent pipeline; developing artists’ practice and careers and celebrating creativity at our national & international platforms. Our presence is regional, but our activity and ambitions reach out across the country and the world.

Founded in 2008, UK Young Artists (UKYA) is a registered Charity (1164826). UKYA is funded and supported by Arts Council England, De Montfort University, Loughborough University, Nottingham Trent University and University of Derby and we hope in 18/19 to be joined by Lincoln University. We support young people (aged between 18 and 30, currently able to work in the UK) to develop and expand their practice by providing creative, artistic and professional development support for those working across all arts disciplines, including visual and performing arts, music, literature, digital and applied arts.

Aims:

  • UKYA will be the platform for international, interdisciplinary and collaborative working for young artists
  • To offer artists their first experience of working internationally
  • To develop new digital platforms for exchange and cross disciplinary working and intercultural dialogue
  • To inspire young creatives and develop their sustainability and resilience
  • To increase young creatives understanding of global issues, and access to international projects.
  • To add value to formal education through our four university partners
  • To promote intercultural understanding and inclusion.

UKYA reflects the diversity of contemporary England. An understanding of the value of a shared national culture is fundamental to our work; we give young people a voice to express themselves through creativity and providing opportunities for global understanding, enhanced by hosting international artists and events in England, and by supporting artists to attend international R&D exchanges and activity and to share that learning. Our work centres on developing leadership, inclusion, diversity and intercultural dialogue. Working across formal and non-formal education and our activities encourage young people to develop skills and to become respectful, independent, brave, creative, collaborative, generous, interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial and confident.
